What is School Choice Scholarships?

In 1998, concerned citizens, leaders in their community came together to form School Choice Scholarships. These individuals wanted to improve the educational opportunities for children from low-income families in Jefferson County, Kentucky.  Every day, affluent families are able to choose the school that  best meet their children's needs and interests but lower income families don't have these same opportunities.

The School Choice program awards partial tuition assistance scholarships,to low-income families committed to their child's education.  School Choice Scholarships is the only private voucher program in Kentucky.  It is also  one of the oldest and largest private voucher initiatives in the United States.  Since 1998, our support has provided over 3,600 low-income children the priceless opportunity to access quality education in a safe and nurturing environment.  The vast majority of the children in our program come from families with annual incomes below $20,000.  School Choice focuses on funding scholarships for children in the primary grades,  because research has consistently shown, that the most important education children receive is during their formative years.  The children in the School Choice program will reap the countless benefits of a strong educational foundation the rest of their lives.  These same children are becoming the citizens our community needs to succeed in the coming years.
